Purchasing a firearm online involves a few important steps to ensure everything is done legally and smoothly. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Choose an FFL
First, find a local Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) who will handle the background check and transfer. Confirm with the FFL that they accept transfers for online purchases before proceeding. This step is crucial, as failure to confirm can result in additional costs or complications. At checkout on our website, you will be presented with a list of FFLs to choose from.
Step 2: Purchase & Shipment
After selecting your firearm and completing the purchase, the firearm will be shipped to your chosen FFL. We require a copy of the FFL’s license before shipment, which we may already have on file. If not, we’ll contact the FFL, or you may need to reach out to them directly to provide their license information.
Step 3: Complete the Transfer
Once the firearm arrives at the FFL, visit them to complete the necessary paperwork and pay any transfer fees. Be sure to inspect the firearm to ensure it’s correct before finalizing the transfer. Note that once the transfer is complete, the firearm cannot be returned.
Waiting Periods (If Applicable)
In states with a waiting period, you’ll need to wait for approval before picking up your firearm. Once cleared, you can return to the FFL to collect your firearm.
FFL Search
If you need to find an FFL, you can search using resources like GunBroker or FFL Gun Dealers. Always verify that the FFL is willing to handle your transfer before purchasing.
